Max Lucado
I need some help. I have heard of people making the following statement in the form of a question, and some have said it to me: "Did you know Max Lucado doesn't believe in baptism anymore?" So, I figured the best thing to do was to go the Oak Hills web site and see what statements I could find concerning baptism. I went to the section titled "Baptism" and clicked on it and found 9 pages advocating baptism because of scripture. So, you can see my confusion.
I am trying to figure out the reason these people are making this statement about our brother Max NOT believing in baptism.
Can somebody clear this up for me?

There are a lot of reasons people make these kind of statements, and most of them are not fit for reprinting here! Unfortunately, most of my graduate education has come in classes taught by professors who were listed right up there with Hitler in terms of dangerous authors by the Gospel Advocate.
I think that while these "wall-watchers" think they are well-intentioned (i.e. keeping the flock pure), they basically fear change, and worship TRADITION as something not to be messed with. So, you have a well known preacher doing something a little out of the box, and a whole lot of people want to kick him out. We don't like people who hang out with "outsiders," right? 'Cause Jesus NEVER did anything like that, huh?
Anyway, this is a subject that obviously gets my blood up a bit...I just hope more people who hear these statements will research like you did, and try to find out where he stands, instead of condemning him based on hearsay.
It's a lot easier to blow up bridges than to build them, and it makes more noise, so it's going to happen. I (and you, too, probably) have relatives who are dear, sweet people, and would give you the shirt off their back if they thought you needed it, yet they are prone to statements like this without trying to get to the truth. The same grace that covers me will cover them, I believe, but the damage is still there.
I read the post too. I didn't need to, but I did and it makes me so sad for his name to be spit out by narrow-minded people. I LOVE "Grace for the Moment" and read it everyday. The things that come out of his mouth and heart can ONLY be attributed to a heart like HIS! Thanks for bringing the truth to light in your blog. Annie
